March Madness!

Can you believe it?! March is already coming to a close. We have been very busy with NWEA testing, our Spring Concert, St. Patrick's Day, and Conferences. I realized that I haven't had as much time to blog as I would like, so we wanted to give you a glimpse into all our March mayhem:

1. We recieved our NWEA scores back and almost everyone met, or exceeded their goal! Miss Parr was SO excited that she did a flip for us that she promised. Then we all kissed our brain for working so hard! 

2. A lucky leprechaun came into our classroom and left us wonderful gifts for our kindness and for being such a great class! He also left us a Magic Tree House book, "Leprechaun in Late Winter," that we read and loved! We all felt very special!

3. We started podcasting our knowledge! We have shared a lot of giggles listening to our voices. We are all destined to be future news anchors and/or radio broadcasters. Podcasts to be posted soon :)

4. We have had Mrs. Nykanen come in to help with our Math Stations. We learned about objects that will/will not float. We also used our muscles to learn about levers and their fulcrums. Yup, we are definitely getting smarter everyday!

5. Mrs. Ceminsky came in several times to help us get organized and to test our knowledge through reading and math assessments. 

6. We sang at our first music concert! We were great gallopers and sweet sounding singers! The audience seemed very impressed with our skills.

7. Throughout the month Miss Parr accidentally called us 1st graders several times! We are growing and learning so much lately that we've have been acting, writing, reading, and behaving like first graders!

8. We have been partner reading a lot more lately! We are becoming fluent readers and Miss Parr loves to sit and listen to us as we work together to sound out words, read with expression, and make predictions.

9. It has finally gotten nice out! We have spent more time outside getting our wiggles out and soaking up the sun! We are enjoying it very much! 

10. We have had the BIG kids (4th-5th graders) come into OUR classroom to read with us, help us with homework, and assist with our projects. We love having them with us because they are teaching us responsibilities that we will have as we get older!

As you can tell we've been very busy learning, growing and playing. We hope you enjoyed hearing about our adventures and we will talk to you again soon!

The Magical Mystery

Well it is finally St. Patty's Day and it definitely brought us a day filled with luck and laughter! When we go back from Music today there was a note on the SMART Board saying:

Walk around the Dome twice

And I will bring you something nice

For all the kindness you brought to me

I will give you back your green!

So as a class we quietly walked around the dome twice. When we walked back in this is what we saw:

There were chairs upside down, a bag filled with our green goodies, and a NEW note on the SMART Board! Before we fixed anything we sat at the carpet and read the note as a class. This is what it said!

I had a great time playing with your green toys and flipping your room around. To thank you I left some magic powder on in the "Leprechaun in Late Winter" book you are reading.  I only give this magical powder to kind kindergartners, so you should feel very honored.

Did you find it yet? What does it smell like to you? 

Well, in order to make it magical you have to follow a few rules.

1. Captains, grab the magical milk that I placed on your tables.

2. Mix all the magical milk cartons and the magical powder together.

3. As you stir, say these words:

Leprechauns, Leprechauns, Shamrocks Seen

MAGIC POWDER Turn Green! 

Well we followed the directions and I we opened the magical milk we discovered that it was already green! But we poured it in the bowl and started stirring. We recited the poem 3 times and BOOM! It happened! The powder turned in a pudding mixture. 

Miss Parr took a small taste first to make sure it was good and then we all sat down and enjoyed the magical mixture that our friend left for us. We talked as a class about why the leprechaun was so nice to our class. These are some of the ideas we came up with:

1. We found his hat and gave it back so he thought we were kind.

2. We let him borrow our green items. 

3. We are nice friends to have and maybe he wants to be our friend. 

4. We are polite pandas and leprechauns like polite people.

Overall we felt very lucky on this St. Patricks day and we wanted to share our luck with you! Hope your day was filled with as much excitement as ours!

What Now?

Monday morning brought many suprises! When we got back from gym class all our toys were pulled out and we discovered a special note on a door.

Dear Pandas,

I popped in to visit, but you were not here! I have a problem that I hope you can solve. While I was dancing around your room, I seemed to of lost my hat! I was really hoping that you could look around and find it for me. If you can find it, I will come back to get it! Oh, I also borrowed a few more green items. I hope you don’ t mind!

Lucky Leprechaun

So...it is a leprechaun after all! And not only did he leave his hat behind, he left two books for us (Leprechaun in Late Winter and That's What Leprechauns Do) to read, and a trail of shamrocks behind! We followed the trail as a class and we did a little bit of hunting and we found the hat! It was hidden in the front of the room. Therefore, in math we made a tally chart to decide if we should give the hat back or not. After graphing our results, as a class we decided that we should give the hat back because it is a kind thing to do.
Hopefully this act of kindness pays off!

Can You Help Us Uncover the Mystery?!

Dear Readers, 

We recently found a note on my door today and we are trying to figure out who it could possibly be from. This is what it said:

Dear Pandas, 

I LOVE green, 

And soon NONE will be seen!
Your Friend, 

?

We discovered that I am missing my green scissors, my green crayons, our green classroom bins, and our green dollar bills that were on our classroom door! Now, some of my pandas think that it may be a teacher borrowing these items, some think it is another teacher playing a prank, some think that it is one of you, and some even think it may be a REAL Leprechaun visiting our classroom! If you have ANY information please comment below and we'll read them as a class! We'd love to hear from you and don't worry, we'll keep you updated if we hear anymore news!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

All week we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s Birthday (March 2nd) by reading Dr. Seuss Books like “The Cat in the Hat,” “The Lorax,” “Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?”, and Mr. Kamphoff even came in and read “Oh! The Places You’ll Go!”  We also created writing projects where the students had to answer “What you would do if you’re mother asked you?”, referring to the Cat in the Hat story.
On Friday we went to MSU for Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Party! We had a wonderful time there and did a lot of interactive activities to practice our letters, numbers, and sound recognition.
